The guide

Which collar can I choose

I can be banded. Often classic, sometimes Italian. I may prefer curved angles. I know how to stay straight. Stiffeners support me well. Who am I?
A shirt collar!

Classic collar

Description:

It’s the most common type of collar, also named French collar. It has a quite narrow spread and collar points are medium-sized.

The guide must:

Highly versatile, the classic collar looks smart on every profile. It has a tendency to make your face look longer and is especially recommended for round faces and with a small neck.

Italian collar

Description:

Less common than classic collar, Italian collar is more flared: it has a wide spread and the collar bands are smaller, giving you a more casual look.

The guide must:

More uncommon, the Italian collar remains versatile and looks good on most profiles. It is especially recommended for narrow faces, but those with a big neck should avoid it.

Button-down collar:

Description:

Also known as American collar, button-down collar has a quite similar spread to the classic collar, but with small buttons at the angle of each collar band (and also another one at the back of the collar). These buttons help to keep the collar straight.

The guide must:

Quite informal, the button-down collar is a perfect match for a casual shirt! The button-down collar shirts often have a pocket on the left chest for an authentic and male finish. It is perfect to wear under knitwear. However, it is not recommended for narrow faces.

Club collar

Description:

Club collar has curved collar bands. People sometimes mistake it with a claudine collar (a must-have of every women wardrobe). It gives you a dandy and retro look.

The guide must:

Original and informal, the club collar is perfect to distinguish yourself quite simply. It easily adapts to every face. Its curved angles are also perfect to create contrast with square faces.

Band-collar

Description:

Officer collar is a neck-band collar: it is only composed of a collar band, without a collar blade or fold to the collar. It is quite similar with Mao collar but with a button on the band, while the Mao collar hasn't.

The guide must:

This kind of collar can only be worn on a casual shirt, because you can’t wear a tie with it. It matches with every face shape, except maybe those with a long neck.
