LIKE A BOY…
– TRAIN LIKE A MAN
A few months after the excitement of the Rio Olympic Games, it is alone and “cool” on an empty field that we found Cédric Charlier – player on the Belgian national hockey team.
When we asked him what he wanted to do when he was a child, Cédric simply replied “I have always been attracted to sport”. (We did not really expect anything else given that his path to success was so obvious!).
After joining the Belgian National Hockey Team at the age of 14 (under 16 category) and with already 3 Olympic participations (and an awesome silver medal), Cédric continues his race in the sports sector by participating in the development of the Hockey brand «Thurso». We let you take a look at his interview to discover from where he comes from and how far he does not intend to stop now! 😉

12 QUESTIONS TO KNOW MORE ABOUT OUR MEN WITH A PROJECT
*translated from the original French version by Abbie & Rose
First of all – and most importantly: What is your favourite emoji?
🤕 (I broke my foot recently…)
How would you describe yourself in a few words?
Hard worker, passionate, introverted, realistic, caring.
Ok, so… tell us how your close friends would describe you in a few words?
It depends who I am asking. Some would say “A very cool guy, honest and always in a good mood!”. Others are nicer and would say “stupid, annoying and a jerk” 😉
Tell us more about your project… How did you get there?
It was more of an inaccessible child’s dream before becoming a project.
I started hockey when I was 5. My parents were the managers of the Uccle (Brussels area) hockey club bar where I began to play. Until age 13, I was playing both hockey and tennis. Then, I had to make a choice as both sports were taking me a lot of time. My main reason for choosing team sport was to evolve with my friends.
At 14, I was in the national team in the under 16 category. I have always been beyond my years and I followed the traditional path of the national teams until the “Adult” one. I played my first match with the Red Lions when I was only 18.
Today, I have taken part in 3 Olympic Games and won one silver medal. For the next 4 years, the project will be to win titles in each of the international championships.
Apart from my athletic life, I also work on the development of Thurso. It is a new hockey brand created in August 2015 and growing every week.
But what is your secret?
I worked harder than the others.
Do you have a fun story to tell us about your project?
Before the beginning of our 3rd match at the last Olympic Games in Rio, our driver got lost. We ended up going round and round in circles in the middle of a favela without knowing where to go. Luckily, we always left very early – otherwise we wouldn’t have been here for the beginning of the match.
So, don’t lie – you can’t work all the time. What do you do to take your mind off work?
I am always up for a restaurant or a drink with my friends. A book or a movie and I let my mind go.
Who did you want to be when you were young?
I have always been into sport in general.
And… Did it work out?
Rather yes ☺
Do you have any other dreams?
Of course. I am currently working on the development of the brand Thurso. I am also a foodie and an amateur of great products. I have a project in mind in the food industry. But this would be after my hockey career.
And now, what do you need to reach the very top?
In sport at a high level, everything is very complex to setup. Especially in a team sport. We have been managing to do so for a few months. The cohesion which has been created in the group will still have to be strengthened. We have to keep questioning ourselves and keep improving. Then, on the D-day, there’s always an aspect of chance. If it could be on our side the next time, that would be great.
Finally, what advice would you have given yourself ten years ago?
Simply trust myself more.
WHO IS ABBIE & ROSE?
Abbie & Rose – or A&R for those in the know even if it is unpronounceable –
is the casual-chic shirt label for the modern man, a guy who’s classy
but doesn’t really care about it.
